Our new single Statues is out today, and can be downloaded from Spotify and iTunes (just search for Quartershade, we’re the only one…).
Some people in the press kindly reviewed it. Here’s a selection:
“‘Statues’ is a breathless torrent of bubbling musical exhuberance. Quartershade sure know how to write a tune and they sure know how to execute it.” - Tasty Fanzine
“…a much welcomed surging shot of speaker spanking brittle and blistering pop” - The Sunday Experience
“Bright indie pop with a surging hook and some fine harmonies to boot… ” - Subba Cultcha
“Uplifting, maybe a little obvious in places, but inspired all the same, Quartershade seem to be embracing accessibility without sacrificing originality.” - Manchester Music
We hope you like it. We’re all done now for 2009 but we’ll be back in the new year with some more singles and our debut album. Exciting stuff!
Love QS

After a few teething problems, we can safely say that new single ‘Lights Out’ is now available to download from Spotify and iTunes. The Spotify link is this. You can find us on iTunes by searching for Quartershade.
To keep ourselves busy while we add the finishing touches to next-year’s album we’re putting out one more single before Xmas. It’s called ‘Statues’ and it will be available again from Spotify and iTunes on the 14th December. Neither Lights Out nor Statues will be on the album so get them while you can!
Take a listen and let us know what you think. And if you like it, tell your friends!

‘Lights Out’, our first single in quite some time is released on Monday. Subba Cultcha describe it as “Anthemic Indie rock with bags of attitude and the sort of chorus that you could throw blow up balls around a stadium to”. You’ll be able to find it on itunes (if you’re paying) and Spotify (if you’re not).
To celebrate we’re heading back into the studio for another long weekend in the company of Paul Tipler, a Fussball table, and hopefully a curry.
Rock on.

…The Midnight Organ Fight by Frightened Rabbit. Bitter, cynical, uplifting.

…Nux Vomica by The Veils. I loved The Runaway Found when it came out but for some reason it’s taken me a while (ok, 3 years) to get round to listening to this one.

On Sunday night we finished three more days in the studio with Tipler, recording lots and lots of bass. Matt worked like a dog and managed to finish all but one song, which is pretty good going. Well done Matthew.
We also bought a vintage Rat (guitar effects pedal) from Stereolab (legendary experimental post-rock band), exchanged pleasantries with the metal band recording next door (nice lads) and discovered Twitter (still don’t see the point of that but hey, everyone else is doing it).
We’re back for three more days at the end of March, by which time everything should start sounding like proper songs, rather than just bass and drums. Can’t wait.

Last month we had the pleasure of sitting in a studio with Paul Tipler for 5 days, recording drums. Lots of drums.
The reason for this is that we’re recording a couple of singles, which will be followed by an album. Plan is to do the whole lot together, then get the first single out late 2009/early 2010. We’ve also started carrying a video camera around with us, and have so far learned two important lessons:
1. Always keep the camera running;
2. Look through what you’ve shot as you go along, because keeping the camera running for five days results in the potential slices of YouTube gold being buried in a lot of footage of us staring at audio tracks on computer screens, drinking tea and talking about football.
Now those lessons have been learned we should be able to make an occasional video diary and share it with you all. We’ll let you know if and when those surface as well how we’re getting on with the album as the year progresses, and also how you can get your hands on it and some other goodies in the process.
